Solène is a mixed media artist, painter and printed textile designer. Born and raised in a region of China known for the intersection of Han, Tibetan and Muslim cultures, her art is deeply rooted in this vibrant and diverse heritage.
She began painting at the age of five and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion in China, specialising in pattern drawing and its application. This developed her ability to create Maximalist patterns and use rich colours. During her studies at the Royal College of Art, she used digital techniques to develop three-dimensional installations combining colour and texture. Focusing on materials and techniques from both the physical and digital realms to explore greater creative space and dimension.
Her work involves the study of Eastern and Western painting, nature, and Buddhist philosophy. By capturing the fleeting moments of the real world and the changes in the course of life, she combines painting, materials and digital technology to explore the Buddhist concepts of sunyata (Emptiness) and eternal essence. To search for the real existence of the temporal context. To explore the Buddhist state of immortal soul flow.
Solène's future work aims to explore the interplay of colour, materials, painting and installation within space. Multi-dimensional works are created through multi-disciplinary practices that reshape the expression of cultural heritage, integrating to foster a deeper connection between the viewer and the work.
